Kitchen Minute with Faith Purvey
Faith Purvey, St. Paul. MN
"Grandma Purvey always made sure there was fully peeled grapefruit on the Christmas table, free of everything but the pulp. We call it "The Way" instead of grapefruit, because it's so involved and ceremonial."
Faith Purvey is a multidisciplinary artist and educator whose work in public invites human encounter in the landscapes around us. Her practice includes site-based installation, community events, painting, photography, and performance. Her projects investigate urban and environmental topics through partnerships with civic entities, youth, and arts institutions. Faith worked as a Garde Manger for a fine chef for many years and fell in love with food’s flavors and aesthetics at an early age.
We asked about finding time for home-cooked meals: “Cooking for myself during school weeks can be a challenge; I aspire to maintain a baseline level of tahini sauce at the very least.” Faith's dinner tonight will be, "Persian cucumbers with olives, capers, red onion and feta, doused in a nice EVOO, or a cup of soup from the Eastside Mississippi Market co-op."
