Kitchen Minute with Teena Wilder
Teena Wilder, Portland OR
"Bringing the new year in with collards and black eyed peas boiling on the stove is a big family tradition. We do it to welcome wealth into the new year."
Teena (she, they) was raised in Summerton, SC and built a passion for expanding access to art spaces after lacking exposure to cultural institutions growing up. She is currently the Art Bridges Curatorial and Community Partnerships Fellow at the Portland Art Museum. Teena completed her undergraduate at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and was a resident at the Yale Norfolk School of Art. In the past she’s been a Queer Justice Organizer, Community Artist, and Multicultural Outreach Specialist. Her favorite book is Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler.
When asked what she is having for dinner this evening, she said, "Japanese curry (with carrots, sweet peas, potatoes) and rice."
